Members discussed the following:

September Meeting 2005

Monthly Intakes are as follows:  June (66), July (35) August (41).  Complainants consisted of concerns for housing, legal matters, discrimination, program information, and information in general.

Monthly Budget:  Members please see monthly activity report attached.

Office equipment update:  as of this Report, our former Dell computer (with replaced drive) has crashed completely.  Key templates are on disc and most are retrievable.  Media pieces are always generated as new.  Lynda DeOrio will help in retrieving our Annual Report template on the shared drive through an older version of PageMaker.  HR has eliminated all older/outdated computer systems in our office.  The old Dell is replaced with a Dell streamlined monitor with wireless keyboard and mouse – very state of the art.  Our Volunteer desk will use the Dell laptop as the size constrictions in the office are better suited to the lap alongside our new fax/small copier machine.

Recap:  Juneteenth Day was in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting.  Audience consisted of 250 students, adults and participating dignitaries.  Blackstorytellers League of Rochester provided an engaging program of cultural-rich stories, appropriate for Juneteenth Day.  Print media provided excellent coverage.  Student Readers from Casey Park School volunteered to read short passages from the Emancipation Proclamation.  Wegmans sponsored the Reception.  A Letter to the Editor thanks all involved in the success of this program.

Annual Report Update:  Designed, printed, and mailed to the following:  schools, service organizations, churches, local politicians, Councilors, Mayor, and City Manager.

HR Scholarship:  $250 mailed to Recipient on Commission Members direction.

Advertising Campaign:  ongoing throughout year

Auburn School District Oasis Program: Volunteer Reader
Program helps students further their academic skills throughout the summer.

HR Recognition Awards:  Media promotions calling for Nominations for our Annual program.  Also contacted:  service organizations, schools, churches.  Our program is scheduled for Wednesday, October 5 from 6-8 pm.  We will use the Council Chambers and Lobby for this annual program.  Ricardo Aguilar, from the NYS Dept. of Labor, is our Guest Speaker.  This year’s approach to tickets will be slightly different.  All tickets will be priced at $10 DONATION with 100% of the ticket price awarded to the scholarship fund.  This is in lieu of our on-going fund-raiser raffle tickets and should be easier to sell for a one-time program.  HR budget will handle the reception costs and purchase all items from Wegmans.  Discussion of nominations/selection.

TomatofFest will be held on Sat./Sun. September 10 & 11 from 11-6 pm.  We will need Members to help occupy the booth on both days.  Commission Members may sign-up for volunteer time slots for the information booth.  We will use T-Fest as an opportunity to raise funds for the Human Rights Scholarship 2006 as well as a public relations/marketing tool for human rights awareness.
